Independent experts in the United States have approved a double-chin-removing medicine

Copper newsIndependent experts at the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unanimously approved the drug ATX-101, which removes the double chin.

This is reported by Reuters (Independent panel to FDA backs Kythera's injection to reduce double chin).

According to the agency, the drug may become the first officially approved drug that removes localized fat deposits. The FDA usually follows the recommendations of independent experts, Reuters adds. The final decision on the new drug is scheduled to be made at a meeting on May 13 this year.

ATX-101 is a sodium deoxycholate that is injected with a syringe under the skin and destroys adipose tissue, leaving other tissues intact.

The medicine is manufactured by Kythera Biopharmaceutical Inc. She has not yet announced what the cost of injections will be.  According to analysts, sales of the drug may amount to at least $ 500 million in the United States. Kythera went public in 2012, and since then its shares have almost tripled in price.

Kythera developed the drug ATX-101 together with the German Bayer, but then bought the rights to distribute the drug. Clinical trials of ATX-101 were completed in 2011.
