The Future of Brain and Intelligence Sciences

REC "Neurobiology, Neuroinformatics and Cognitive Research" with the financial support of the Federal Agency for Science and Innovation of the Russian Federation within the framework of the federal target program "Scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia" conducts the I All-Russian School "Into the future of Brain and Intelligence Sciences". The school will be held from November 6 to 12, 2009 in the Moscow region.

We haven't found the double helix of the brain yet…
Francis Crick, Nobel Prize winner,
discoverer of the molecular structure of DNAThe discovery of molecular mechanisms of heredity in the XX century set the vector of development of biology for several decades to come.

Genetic engineering and biotechnologies that have emerged as a result are rapidly transforming everyone's life today. What areas of advanced scientific research will build our future? One of such promising areas is neuroscience. Understanding the principles of the brain and intelligence can qualitatively expand cognitive capabilities and change a person's life in the XXI century.

Within the framework of the school, participants will be invited to discuss the problems of brain and intelligence sciences with well-known scientists working in this field. Unlike ordinary schools focused on the latest achievements in a particular direction and consisting of lectures and presentations by participants of their current work, we will try not only to consider current issues of today, but also to look into the future.

What tasks and problems will have the greatest impact on the development of brain sciences?

What methods and technologies emerging today can help solve them?

The first part of the school, consisting of problem-oriented lectures by leading scientists and discussions, will be devoted to finding answers to these questions.

In the second part of the school, participants will be invited to join groups on school topics for creative work on advanced research projects. Reports on the results of work on projects will be presented at a mini-conference. The school will conclude with a round table on the topic "The future of brain and intelligence sciences".

The school is conducted by the Scientific and Educational Center "Neurobiology, Neuroinformatics and Cognitive Research" of the MEPhI Research Institute with the financial support of the Federal Agency for Science and Innovation of the Russian Federation within the framework of the federal target program "Scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia". Dates of the school: November 6-12, 2009.

School goals:To bring together students, beginners and well–known scientists – neuroscientists, physicists, mathematicians - to discuss the future of brain and intelligence research.

  1. To introduce young participants of the school to the advanced problems of cognitive neuroscience and artificial intelligence modeling.
  2. To develop the skills of selection, formulation and planning of scientific research among young participants.
  3. Create opportunities for establishing new interdisciplinary contacts and cooperation.

phone – 8 (495) 6012179, e–mail - school@neurofuture.ruSenior students, postgraduates and young scientists are invited to participate in the school (no more than a year after receiving a degree).

To participate in the school, you must pass a competitive selection. The school is interdisciplinary - we are waiting for applications from representatives of all natural science disciplines. All participants will be paid for transportation and accommodation.

Applications for participation in the school are accepted until September 30, 2009. For more information about participation, see the websites of the School and the NCI RECPortal "Eternal youth" http://vechnayamolodost.ru
