The contest "Young. Audacious. Promising" 2010

The Committee on Science and Higher Education of the Administration of St. Petersburg announces in 2010 a competition of business ideas, scientific and technical developments and research projects under the motto "Young. Audacious. Promising"

The competition is held by the Committee for Science and Higher Education in accordance with the Decree of the Government of St. Petersburg dated 06/19/2007 No. 684 "On the main measures for the development of scientific activity in St. Petersburg for 2008-2011".

The accompanying organization of the competition is the Economic News Agency "RENA".

Objectives of the competition:– stimulating entrepreneurial and innovative activities of young people;


– formation of a database of business ideas, projects and innovative developments for their further promotion;
– formation of an environment conducive to the creation of sustainable contacts between young people and organizations engaged in entrepreneurial and scientific-innovative activities, potential investors and other subjects of business processes; - promotion of youth entrepreneurship.

The main objectives of the Competition are:– support of talented and active youth engaged in science, education, innovation;


– stimulating innovative activity of young people;
– identification of innovative developments, business ideas and projects aimed at developing the economy of St. Petersburg.

Requirements for the participants of the CompetitionStudents, postgraduates, young scientists, managers aged from 18 to 35 years inclusive are invited to participate in the Competition (age at the time of the competition is taken into account).

Contest nominationsThe competition is held in three categories: "Business idea", "Scientific and technical development", "Research project".

Three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) are determined in each nomination.

Requirements for competitive applicationsApplications for the Competition are accepted from May 24 to June 25, 2010 inclusive.

Applications for participation in the Competition are submitted electronically to the e-mail of the Accompanying organization es@itartass.spb.ru and copies of applications for rena@itartass.spb.ru in the form of attached files and must contain the following documents:

– applicant's questionnaire (download);
– a copy of the passport (scanned pages 2, 3 and 5);
– summary of the project (in Word format, Times New Roman font, font size 12, single spacing, with a total volume of no more than 5 pages);

The applicant's application form for all nominations of the Competition is drawn up and must contain:

1. Full name
2. Date of birth, place of birth
3. Passport data (issued by whom and when)
4. Place of study/ work (full official name), position
5. Home address
6. Contact phone numbers
7. Email address
8. Name of the competition work
9. Name of the Contest nomination

The project summary should contain:

for the nomination "Business idea":
– Full name of the author;
– project name;
– the purpose of the project
– project objectives;
– brief description of the project;
– disclosure of the novelty of the project (the product obtained as a result of the project);
– project implementation plan;
– market assessment,
– the required amount of investment for the implementation of the project, indicating the directions of spending (financial plan of the project);
– payback period of the project;
– additional information (availability of applications, patents, etc.);
– contact information.

for the nomination "Scientific and technical development":
– Full name of the author;
– project name;
– the purpose of the project;
– project objectives;
– brief description of the project;
– disclosure of the scientific and technical novelty of the project;
– available scientific and technical reserve;
– the protectability of the results of scientific and technical activities;
– project implementation plan, including implementation methods and tools;
– market assessment,
– financial plan of the project indicating the required amount of investment;
– approbation of the results obtained;
– payback period of the project;
– additional information (participation in other competitions, availability
– potential investors, availability of applications, patents, etc.);
– contact information.

for the nomination "Research project":
– Full name of the author;
– project name;
– the purpose of the study;
– description of the problem that the study is aimed at solving;
– a brief summary of the study;
– disclosure of scientific novelty;
– review of the supervisor;
– copies of published papers on the research topic;
– additional information (participation in conferences, symposiums, etc.);
– contact information.

Evaluation criteriaNomination "Business idea":


– novelty;
– social significance;
– technical and financial feasibility;
– competitiveness;
– commercial effect.

Nomination "Scientific and technical development":
– scientific and technical novelty;
– the protectability of the results of scientific and technical activities;
– commercial potential;
– elaboration of the topic (project implementation plan);
– availability of the project team;
– the possibility of practical application in the national economy.

Nomination "Research project":
– relevance of the topic;
– scientific novelty;
– practical significance;
– clarity and logical validity in setting goals and objectives of the study;
– independence of judgments, assessments and conclusions.

The competition is held in two stages.

Competitive selection procedureThe first stage.

The applicant (a team of applicants) submits an application for participation in the Competition to the Accompanying organization. The applicant (a team of applicants) has the opportunity to submit only one application to the Competition and only in one of the nominations of the Competition. Applications submitted to the Competition are subject to preliminary technical examination for compliance with the formal requirements of the Competition – the availability of a complete set of documents. Based on its results, a decision is made to accept (or refuse / need to finalize) the application for participation in the Competition. The results of the technical examination are communicated to each applicant electronically to the applicant's personal email address. Professional evaluation of the works submitted for the Competition is carried out by experts. According to the results of the examination, the finalists of the Competition are determined. The finalists of the Competition are notified of admission to the final of the Competition in electronic form to the applicant's personal email address.

The second stage:

The finalists of the Competition make a public presentation of the works before the Jury of the competition. The jury determines the winners of the Contest according to the nominations. In each nomination, the Jury has the right to determine three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place).

Awards of the competitionThe winners of the Competition in the nominations are awarded with diplomas of the laureates of the Competition and cash prizes.

The participants of the Competition who have passed the second stage of the Competition are awarded with Certificates of the participant.

According to the results of the Competition, a Catalog is formed with the inclusion of the works of the participants of the Competition who have passed the examination. The catalog of the Competition is awarded to the participants at the final of the Competition.
