"Size matters": a film about nanotechnology

SIZE MATTERSIs nanotechnology a secret behind seven locks or a discipline accessible to everyone?

Does it give us the opportunity to discover new properties of ordinary substances or does it pose a danger of the unknown? What is behind this word: a set of methods for working with objects smaller than 100 nanometers or something else? These and other questions are answered by the heroes of the film about nanotechnology "Size matters".

In the film, famous Russian physicists, using the example of polymers, fascinatingly tell what nanoscience does. After all, ordinary polymers are imperfect — for example, they cause a lot of environmental problems. But it is worth correcting them a little, for example, by changing the surface layer of atoms or by making nanopores in the film, as we will get a completely new material, more convenient and safe to use.

Non–combustible polyethylene, coatings that purify indoor air, biodegradable films - scientists are already investigating these materials in laboratories. Operating at the level of atoms and molecules, they set the substance almost any desired property. These are the tasks that nanotechnology solves.

Academician A.R. Khokhlov, Vice-Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University:
"Nanotechnology is the main way of development of modern physics, chemistry and biology."
Corresponding member A.N. Ozerin, Director of the ISPM named after N.S.Enikolopov of the Russian Academy of Sciences
"Whoever owns the modifiers owns the market."
I.P. Bilenkina, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Science and Innovation:
"Three factors – personnel, material and technical component and money –
they will make sure that the raw materials sector does not become dominant in our country."

The film "Size Matters" was created with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Federal Agency for Science and Innovation.
