For just $200

Smart pajamas for two hundred dollars will help the owner to work on the quality of his sleep

She will remember the poses in which the wearer slept, record the heartbeat and breathing rate

Engineers from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst presented "smart" pajamas with built-in sensors for monitoring heartbeat, breathing, depth and duration of sleep.

The polymers that make up the electronic components of pajamas are applied to the fabric in a thin layer, so that they are practically imperceptible to humans. The authors of the device also managed to achieve sufficient wear resistance from polymers, so that "smart" pajamas can be washed together with ordinary clothes and not worry about anything.

Scientists told about the development, called "Phyjama" (Phyjama), at a conference of the American Chemical Society. The main advantage of the "smart" pajamas over the now popular tracking bracelets is that it collects much more important information, including recording breathing features and body position during sleep due to pressure sensors.

Scientists used the technology of chemical deposition from the gas phase to apply polymer films to the fabric, which make up the electronic components of "smart" clothing. Such films are resistant to wear and withstand the mechanical requirements for the production of textiles, the researchers explain.

Two types of pressure sensors collect data about the sleeper. The first, piezoelectric, fix the constant pressure of the body when the body comes into contact with the bed. The researchers claim that for the first time they used such sensors on smart clothes, the combined information from them will allow analyzing the position of the body in a dream. But the same sensors are not able to detect a small and unstable pressure from the beating of a person's heart and breathing, so the engineers placed several triboelectric sensors on the chest that are suitable for such a task.

Thin and light sensors with textile patches sewn on top are located at five points on the pajamas and are interconnected by thin wires hidden in cotton.

From each sensor, such a wire also goes into a small board, the size and shape of a regular zipper on pajamas. From here, data is transmitted via Bluetooth to a smartphone or other connected device.

The developers assume that "Figama" can enter the market in two years, the cost of the product will be in the range of $ 100-200.
