Play Genes in Space – help oncologists

A mobile game to fight cancer has been released

<url>The British Cancer Research Center has released a game that is designed to analyze medical data obtained from cancer patients.

This is reported by Eurogamer (Playing this cancer research game could actually help find a cure – VM). The game, called Genes in Space, was released on iOS and Android devices. It is free. (You can download it on the Cancer Research UK – VM website).

The game takes place in the future. In Genes in Space, players need to control a spaceship. They must collect a valuable resource in space, as well as avoid asteroids. The distribution of the resource corresponds to the activity of different genes in the samples of cancer patients — each level in the game was created based on data that was obtained using DNA microchips. The passage allows you to speed up the analysis of the data obtained during the study, as well as make it more accurate.

As the researchers themselves explained, while studying the human genome for areas that contribute to the development of cancer, they receive significant amounts of information. At the same time, it can take a very long time to analyze it, and the game allows you to greatly shorten this period.

Previously, games have repeatedly become a tool that helps scientific research. One of the most striking examples is Foldit, in which players must find the optimal way to fold proteins. Foldit was released in 2008. She is part of a research project at the University of Washington.
