How to reduce the signs of aging: dermatologist's advice

According to certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, who is the founder and director of the Skin Color Center at St. Luke's and Roosevelt Clinics in New York, people often believe that the more expensive the product, the higher its effectiveness. However, this statement does not always correspond to reality and very effective inexpensive skin care products can be found in almost any store.

In order to get the most out of products to slow down skin aging, Taylor recommends following the following tips:

  1. Sunlight can accelerate the appearance of signs of skin aging, so apply a cream or lotion with a sunscreen filter to all areas of the skin uncovered by clothing every day.
  2. Do not sunbathe either in direct sunlight or in a solarium, since the light of the ultraviolet zone of the spectrum is harmful to the skin, it can accelerate its aging processes, contribute to the appearance of wrinkles, senile age spots, uneven complexion and even cause skin cancer.
  3. Moisturize the skin, as the water absorbed by the skin helps to smooth out fine wrinkles and makes the skin color brighter and younger.
  4. Check the compatibility with your skin of all cosmetic products, even those labeled as hypoallergenic. To do this, apply a little product to the skin of the inner surface of the forearm twice a day for 4-5 days. Start applying the product to your face only after making sure that it does not cause an allergic reaction.
  5. Use cosmetic products according to the instructions. If you use too much of their active ingredients, they can do more harm than good. Applying an excessive amount of the drug can lead to clogged pores, uneven complexion and other undesirable side effects.
  6. Skin irritation aggravates the signs of aging. Therefore, stop using products that cause a tingling or burning sensation, except when they are recommended by a dermatologist. However, in such cases, they should be used only under the supervision of a specialist.
  7. Limit the number of products used. Applying too many products to the skin, especially several products designed to slow down aging, often causes irritation. This, in turn, aggravates the external manifestations of skin aging.

It is also important to remember that in order for cosmetic products to have the desired effect, time is needed. The only exception is moisturizers that instantly smooth out fine wrinkles. For the appearance of a visible effect of most cosmetic products, at least six weeks of regular use are required.
