Half of the participants in the British survey on the knowledge of anatomy could not find a heart

Copper newsAbout half of the Britons who took part in a survey on knowledge of human anatomy conducted by the Museum of London could not correctly indicate where their heart is and did not know how many teeth in an adult's mouth, the Daily Mail reports (Half of Britons are so clueless about their own bodies they are unable to point out where their HEART is).

Most of the survey participants could not correctly name the normal temperature of the human body and had no idea what functions various organs perform.

40 percent of respondents did not know the location of the kidneys, and 10 percent did not know their number. In addition, more than half did not even imagine where exactly the gallbladder is located, 75 percent did not know that the liver is the largest internal organ of a person, 40 percent assumed that one lung is larger than another, and 60 percent could not answer the question about their blood type.

Two thousand people took part in the survey timed to coincide with the exhibition "Doctors, Dissection And Resurrection Men" ("Doctors, Anatomy and Body Snatchers"), which opens on October 19 at the Museum of London. The exhibition, which runs until April 14, 2013, is dedicated to the history of anatomical research in the UK since the beginning of the 19th century.
