Fundraising for a head transplant is going too slowly

The operation was conceived and announced by the Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero, who states that all the necessary procedures have already been worked out separately, and they only need to be combined within the framework of one operation. He wants the first operation to be performed on a person with spinal muscular atrophy. Spiridonov has Werdnig-Hoffman disease, one of the most severe types of SMA. The cost of the operation exceeds 10 million euros, Canavero is going to carry it out next year.

As Canavero stated earlier, the country where the head will be transplanted for the first time will go down in world history. Meanwhile, the operation in Russia is unlikely. Oleg Salagai, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, told TASS on Monday that the current list of transplant facilities approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in 2007 does not provide for a head transplant. In addition, according to Salagai, all doctors who have received medical education in foreign countries are allowed to work in Russia only after passing an exam in their specialty and receiving accreditation.
