Nothing that wounded, he will not die…

Russian scientists have developed a tourniquet to stop internal bleeding

Business newspaper "Vzglyad"Physicists of the Rostov Research Institute of the Southern Federal University (SFU), commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense, have created a special tourniquet for the military that can stop internal bleeding in the field without the risk of complications.

There are no analogues of such protection in the world yet, ITAR-TASS reports.

According to Andrey Rybyants, head of the department of the SFU Research Institute of Physics, the "acoustic cuff" for stopping internal bleeding will pass the first tests in May.

"During the war, large losses of personnel occur precisely as a result of internal bleeding, which is not visible," explained Rybyanets. – The use of an ultrasound machine will stop internal hemorrhage for 6 hours, which will give time to evacuate the wounded and perform surgery without amputation of limbs, eventually saving a life."

The standard methods of helping with such an injury – an ordinary tourniquet – are ineffective, a person bleeds and dies within a short time.

According to the general opinion, the "acoustic cuff" will be widely used by both rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and emergency medical services. The development is similar to a blood pressure measuring device. A tourniquet is applied to the injury site, with the help of an electric motor, it inflates and squeezes the limb. At this time, the built-in system of ultrasonic sensors finds the place of rupture of the vessel and "cauterizes" the damage.

"A similar technique of power ultrasound is used for the treatment of oncological diseases. In the case of a soldier's cuff, the system will have to independently look for damage in the blood stream in order to "brew a hole," commented Rybyanets.

There will be several variants of the device – for a soldier's personal first aid kit (the cuff weight is 3 kg) and a heavier version for an orderly and an inpatient hospital.

The main customer for the project is St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University. St. Petersburg scientists together with the Kirov Military Medical Academy of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation make a tourniquet. And Rostov residents – the heart itself is a cuff, an ultrasound system, exactly what will cauterize the place of artery damage. The total cost of the project is 280 million rubles, of which the Rostov part of the coagulation system is 70 million rubles.
