Song of Pensions

More than half of Russians want to continue working

About a third of them intend to master a new profession

Elena Rozhkova, Izvestia

More than half of Russians plan to work after reaching retirement age, according to the results of the Rostrud survey (available to Izvestia). Moreover, about a third would like to master a new profession that will allow them to earn money at home. However, about 70% of respondents believe that the ability of older people to continue their activities depends only on the desire of the authorities. The opinion of employers is not always objective in relation to age-related employees and is often dictated by stereotypes, according to the federal service. Experts are sure that today companies prefer more energetic job seekers, but a business building long-term plans will show demand for employees over 45 years old due to their responsibility and sense of duty.

Labor impulse

56.3% of Russian citizens want to continue working after retirement. This is stated in the Rostrud survey, which was conducted on the portal "Work in Russia". Moreover, the majority of respondents (34.5%) expect to work at a state-owned enterprise, and only 7.4% would prefer a private company. 15.8% of Russians in retirement would like to open their own business, 23.2% – to work from home, and a fifth (19.1%) – to do something else. This is the first survey conducted by Rostrud after raising the retirement age. A similar study was done by VTSIOM before the reform – in 2015. Then more than a third of able-bodied Russians (37%) wanted to continue working after going on vacation.

According to Rostrud, 27.1% of citizens would not like to work at this time. The remaining 16.6% of respondents did not think about plans after going on a well-deserved rest. A third of respondents (30.1%) would like to continue working in their specialty in retirement, 25% would prefer to switch to a less difficult job and a part-time schedule. At the same time, having reached the pre-retirement age, 27.6% intend to receive additional education, which will allow them to find a remote job.

IZVESTIA REFERENCESince 2019, new retirement age limits have come into force in Russia – 60 years for women and 65 years for men.
They will be achieved in stages until 2028. At the same time, the concept of pre–retirees was introduced - these are citizens who have five years left before going on vacation. A number of benefits and guarantees have been established for them. In particular, criminal liability has been introduced for employers for refusing to accept or dismiss such an employee. The ability of people in retirement age to work depends on the willingness of the employer to accept them, 77.6% of respondents believe.
11.8% are sure that anyone who wants to earn money during this period will be able to. And only 10.5% of respondents answered that professional skills and qualifications will help to find a job in retirement.

Without stereotypes

The opinion of employers is not always objective in relation to older citizens and is often dictated by established stereotypes, Denis Vasiliev, deputy head of Rostrud, told Izvestia.

– Therefore, one of the most important tasks today is to create conditions for the continuation of the work of older citizens, including their retraining, – he stressed.

The deputy head of the federal Service recalled that since this year, retraining programs for pre-retirees have been developed in all regions of Russia and, according to data for mid-June, more than 17 thousand people have already been sent to courses. Also, according to Denis Vasiliev, Rostrud has launched a special section "Experienced personnel" on the portal "Work in Russia", which is designed to help applicants aged in the device.

In the press service of one of the largest job search portals HH.ru Izvestia was informed that today the share of resumes of applicants over 45 years old is about 15% and this is the smallest age group. Since 2013, the activity of such citizens has been gradually increasing, the largest recorded in the professional field of "Home staff", the smallest – in the field of "Marketing, advertising, PR", the company noted.

Age peculiarities are the only specific problem of employment for the older generation, the press service said HH.ru . Other age groups are characterized by other difficulties. For example, the problem with finding a job with decent pay is more common in the 25-34 year old group. Lack of knowledge or relevant experience is one of the key problems for citizens under 25.

They added that refusals due to age are most specific for a group of people aged 56-60, while offers with low salaries are much more likely to concern people aged 45-50. Interestingly, citizens aged 56-60 have a problem finding a job with good pay less often. Most likely, this is due to the fact that in principle it is difficult to get a job at the pre-retirement age, so the question of money goes by the wayside.

One of the main prerequisites for which Russians want to continue working is additional income, says RANEPA Professor Alexander Shcherbakov. And the unwillingness to hire pre-retirees and older people, in his opinion, is due to the fact that there are still a lot of vacancies in Russia that imply high energy costs. At the same time, the sector of positions where knowledge in the field of information technology is needed is growing, but employers prefer to take young applicants to these places.

At the same time, according to the expert, age–related employees are very responsible personnel and their main value lies in experience, a sense of duty and the ability to get along with the team. Professor RANEPA is confident that companies that build long-term plans will show demand for workers of pre-retirement age precisely because such citizens will be able to approach their business responsibly.
