WHO has declared a pandemic due to the spread of coronavirus around the world

The Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced a pandemic in connection with the outbreak of coronavirus disease in 2019 worldwide and an increase in the number of cases.

"Over the past two weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases outside China has increased 13-fold, and the number of affected countries has tripled. <...> In the coming days and weeks, we expect that the number of cases, deaths and the number of affected countries will increase. <...> We have come to the assessment that Covid-19 can be characterized as a pandemic," he said at a briefing in Geneva.

According to the head of the WHO, there is still hope that the course of the pandemic will be stopped if all countries take urgent and tough measures to combat Covid-19.

According to the latest data, the total number of deaths from coronavirus worldwide has exceeded 4.3 thousand. In total, almost 120 thousand people were infected in 114 states, 65.7 thousand patients recovered.

The Russian operational headquarters for monitoring the situation with Covid-19 reported that six more patients were identified in Moscow on March 11, and two cases were also registered in the Moscow region. All those infected in recent weeks have visited Italy, which ranks second in the prevalence of Covid-19 after China: 827 people have already died there, and the number of deaths is growing rapidly every day. Thus, a total of 28 cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection were recorded in Russia.

The government has decided to restrict air traffic with Italy, France, Germany and Spain starting from Friday, March 13 (except for regular flights from Terminal F of Sheremetyevo Airport in the capital).

All Russians who are in these countries will be able to return home by charter. Earlier, similar measures were taken with respect to flights to China, Iran and South Korea. In addition, Russia will stop issuing visas to Italian citizens.
