Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and white cabbage protect against cancer

Doctors have included broccoli, Brussels sprouts and white cabbage in the list of foods that are useful for cancer prevention.

It is noted that these vegetables contain the substance sulforaphane. Sulforaphane prevents cancer cells from multiplying and, therefore, prevents cancer from developing. Earlier, American health experts also included cabbage in the list of foods that provide additional protection against cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, there will be 2,001,140 new cancer cases and 611,720 cancer deaths in the United States in 2024. Lung cancer, colorectal cancer and cancer, and pancreatic cancer cause the most deaths. Prostate cancer was the leading diagnosis in men, while breast cancer was the most common form of cancer in women.

All types of greens such as spinach, kale, broccoli, turnips and leafy cabbage provide additional protection against cancer. Consuming more greens also replaces sugar and other unhealthy foods in the diet and leads to positive outcomes beyond cancer, including a reduced risk of heart disease or obesity. In laboratory experiments, substances consumed in cruciferous vegetables had anti-cancer effects. For men, there is no better vegetable than tomatoes in terms of prostate cancer prevention, the scientists explained. Cherry tomatoes are the best option because most of the nutritional value is contained in the peel.
