Biomedicine at the Open Innovations Forum

RIA NewsThe participants of the Moscow international forum "Open Innovations", which is attended by the world's leading innovation experts, can get an idea of what technological breakthroughs are expected in the future, says Evgeny Zaitsev, founder and general partner of the biomedicine venture fund Helix Ventures.

"I believe that the Open Innovations Forum is unique in its essence. There are no other such forums in the world dedicated to innovation in a broad sense, dedicated specifically to the international aspects of this process," Zaitsev told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the forum.

"I am attracted here by the fact that you can see a lot from the future (of high technologies) while chatting on the sidelines. Because many speakers who come here are those who are called "visionaries", people who have been able to predict many times what will happen in the future, who have turned science into a market product in many projects," Zaitsev said.

One of the most notable features of the international forum "Open Innovations" held in the capital was the expansion of its scientific program by discussing biomedicine projects, this is due to the serious interest in this topic in Russia, says Professor Omid Farokhzad of Harvard Medical School, winner of the international prize in the field of nanotechnology Rusnanoprize-2013.

"The composition of the forum participants is very strong. It discussed the main trends in modern biomedicine, for example, methods of personalized treatment of certain diseases. I see an increased interest in biotechnologies in Russia," Farokhzad told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the forum.

The scientist added that Russia is a big market for biopharmaceuticals, and it is no coincidence that there are more and more projects on this topic in the country. According to him, breakthroughs in this area will lie at the junction of bio- and nanotechnology.
