Cancer can be detected by urine analysis

Copper news based on Bloomberg materials: Hitachi Developing Urine Test for Breast and Colon Cancers

The problem of early detection of cancer is one of the key in oncology. Detection of tumors in the early stages allows you to start treatment in a timely manner and prevent the progression of the disease.

Hitachi is developing an effective test for the early diagnosis of breast cancer and colorectal cancer. To detect cancer, invasive procedures will not be required, a patient's urine sample is analyzed during the test.

The research team led by Minoru Sakairi analyzed samples taken from 15 patients with breast cancer, 15 patients with colorectal cancer and 15 healthy participants in the experiment. They were able to detect about 10 biomarkers associated with these oncological diseases, the presence of which made it possible to correctly diagnose the presence of a tumor.

In the near future, the effectiveness of the test will be tested on a larger sample consisting of 200 healthy people and 200 patients with breast cancer.
