Dannon was punished for exaggerating the benefits of yogurt

According to RIA Novosti, Dannon Co., the American branch of the world's largest dairy producer Danone, will pay $ 35 million to its customers as compensation for the inconsistency of the quality of Activia and DanActive yoghurts with the information distributed in advertising, the Associated Press reported on Friday.

In particular, any American who bought yoghurts of this line in 2006 and 2007 can receive up to $ 100 in damages.

The management of Dannon Co. made the decision in connection with a lawsuit initiated after consumers filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing the manufacturer of overestimating the health benefits of yogurt. In particular, Activia and DanActive advertisements stated that frequent consumption of these products improves immunity and regulates digestion due to the presence of beneficial bacteria.

At the same time, representatives of the American branch state that the products, nevertheless, correspond to the information disseminated in advertising, and the decision to pay compensation was made in order to calm the public and prevent the possibility of new litigation.
