Diet by genes

A new genetic test will help you choose the right dietЗдоровье.KM.RU
Researchers from Interleukin Genetics Inc have developed a new genetic test that will help you choose the right diet for those who want to lose weight.

Scientists from Stanford University have already confirmed the effectiveness of this test on 140 women who were either overweight or obese. The research data were presented by Interleukin on March 3 at the American Heart Association conference.

After investigating mutations in the three main genes PPARG, FABP2 and ADRB2, "responsible" for fat metabolism, the test developers revealed that 39% of white Americans have a genotype in which you can lose weight by limiting fat intake. At the same time, 45% of US residents need to reduce their carbohydrate intake for the same purpose, and 16% need to adhere to a balanced diet. As a result, it turned out that those of the subjects who sat on a diet corresponding to their genotype had a weight loss of 5.3%. For those who "did not guess" with the diet, this indicator was 2.3%.

Simultaneously with weight loss, the participants of the experiment revealed a significant decrease in cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, as well as normalization of blood pressure, which can be called a comprehensive indicator of improving overall health.

As noted by one of the authors of the study, Christopher Gardner, the potential use of genetic information will allow in the future to deal with the problems of excess weight, without resorting to the help of pharmaceuticals. Nevertheless, scientists believe that the results obtained are preliminary, and research in this area should be continued.
