Hereditary diseases can be prevented

Britons will be tested for genetic diseases before conceiving a child
Copper newsResidents of the UK will be able to freely take tests for hereditary diseases before conceiving a child.

According to The Telegraph (Green light for genetic screening for inherited diseases), the British Commission on Human Genetics (HGC) has approved the conduct of such studies in medical institutions of the country.

Currently, only Britons with a high risk of developing hereditary diseases, for example, whose relatives suffer from such diseases, can undergo a genetic examination for free. According to the HGC report, the introduction of a common screening program will ensure equal access to these medical services for residents of the United Kingdom.

One of the main advantages of such a program is the possibility of providing assisted reproductive technologies to Britons who will be diagnosed with hereditary diseases during testing. In particular, the use of donor eggs and sperm, as well as genetic analysis of in vitro fertilized eggs.

HGC recommendations on the introduction of genetic testing were submitted to the British National Screening Committee (UK National Screening Committee) for consideration. The Committee will have to determine the list of medical institutions in the country where the relevant tests will be carried out.
