Men have overtaken women in the issue of healthy old age

MedikForum

The Annual Population Survey published by the Office of National Statistics of Great Britain has shown that the life expectancy that a woman can spend with good health has recently decreased. For the first time in history, men have overtaken women in this matter, and now it is the representatives of the stronger sex who have a healthier old age. However, the main trend has remained unchanged, and women still live, in general, longer than men, although this difference is steadily decreasing.

According to statistics, over the past three years, life expectancy in good health for girls in England has decreased by almost 4 months. But over the same period, the indicator of healthy life for boys increased slightly, overtaking women. These conclusions were made on the basis of annual observations of 320 thousand inhabitants of the country, which are carried out every year.

The expected duration of a healthy period of life is calculated based on surveys of people who report in detail about their health. According to experts, men are now more likely to live longer, as their employment in harmful and dangerous industries, such as coal mines, has decreased. In addition, modern representatives of the stronger sex are much less likely to smoke and drink alcoholic beverages. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the anti-smoking campaign have borne fruit. It is quite possible that in the future men will live longer than women.
