A new coronavirus mutation found in the UK does not pose a greater danger to humans, although it may be more contagious. This was announced on Tuesday on the Sky News channel by the special envoy of the World Health Organization (WHO), David Nabarro.

"It [the mutation] seems more contagious, but it doesn't seem more dangerous," he said.

Earlier, the head of the UK Ministry of Health, Matt Hancock, said that British scientists have identified a new variant of the coronavirus, which may be associated with the rapid spread of the disease in the south-eastern part of England. According to him, preliminary analysis shows that this variant of the virus is spreading faster than known strains.

WHO Emergency Program Director Michael Ryan, in turn, said at a briefing on Monday that the World Health Organization hopes to cooperate with specialists from the UK and other countries on the issue of coronavirus mutation.
