A robotic complex for dosing nanoobjects of liquids, designed to save scientists from routine work, will be used for genomic research at the Center for Systems Biomedicine and Biotechnology of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech). This was announced on Thursday by the press service of the university.

"The Center for Systems Biomedicine and Biotechnology of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology has implemented an automated system (robotic complex) for dosing nanoscale liquids Mosquito company TTP Labtech. The robot will be used for genomic research, will allow scientists to work with ultra–small DNA and RNA samples and save expensive reagents and time," the report says.

It is noted that this is the first Mosquito robot in Russia, more than 800 such systems have been installed worldwide. And about 100 of them are used for the preparation of genomic research in leading research centers and universities.

Genome decoding has become one of the key and routine methods in biomedical research today. However, the preparation of materials for such studies remains a painstaking, costly and time-consuming procedure. In addition, scientists have to deal with very small volumes of liquids and samples. The Mosquito robot will just perform one of the most time–consuming operations in routine sample preparation - distribute the sample and reagents according to a given algorithm into wells. The university notes that the robot fills a tablet of 96 holes in a matter of minutes.

"It is also planned to use Mosquito to create genomic libraries that can be used to solve a wide range of problems in genetics, biotechnology and medicine, including for the diagnosis of hereditary diseases. The creation of such gene libraries requires a large array of research. Another task that the device will solve is the preparation of experiments on the analysis of the genome of a single cell," the report says.
