Nanoparticles for agriculture

Krasnoyarsk scientists have created nanoparticles that accelerate plant growth

Siberian News Agency

Krasnoyarsk scientists have invented biogenic nanoparticles that accelerate the growth of seeds and plants. This was reported by the press service of the regional government.

The development was carried out by specialists of KrasGAU together with colleagues from the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS.

For the first time in Russia, researchers used iron-based nanoparticles to propagate and protect crops. Experiments have shown that when treated with nanoparticles, the germination of cereal seeds has significantly increased, as well as the number and length of the roots of the experimental group of plants has increased several times.

Now the authors of the project are studying the mechanisms of the influence of biogenic nanoparticles on the development of the root system of plants.

"The treatment of plants is environmentally safe, since we use particles similar to those that are formed in soils under certain conditions," said the project manager, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Yuri Gurevich.

According to the vice-rector of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University Valentina Bopp, the created technology will reduce the pesticide load, favorably affect the cost of grain production and product safety.

Scientists are ready to start field testing of the development. It is expected that in 2018 the project will be presented to potential investors.
