RIA News

The Union State (SG) has initiated a project to create a DNA database in the interests of the investigative committees and the Ministries of Health of Russia and Belarus, the State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota told RIA Novosti.

"We have interactions between various departments. Both in the form of interaction and in the methods. If you need any help from us, we always connect. For example, now we have practically approved a program that is conventionally called "DNA identification". This is a big program that is being done in the interests of investigative committees and ministries of health," Rapota said.

According to him, the SG has taken the initiative to use the funds of the budget of the Union State for these purposes.

"The program is now at the stage of making a final decision. There are peculiarities of people living in different regions, different climatic zones, susceptible to certain diseases, or resistant to them. Therefore, such databases will make it possible to solve health issues more effectively. But DNA databases allow us to solve not only medical problems. This will also contribute to the detection of crimes," Rapota said.

The SG Secretary of State added that the implementation period of this project is 4 years, and the cost is about 2 billion rubles.
