Science cities of all Russia, unite!

Five Russian science cities – Biysk, Koltsovo, Michurinsk, Obninsk and Pushchino – want to unite into a biopharmaceutical cluster. An application has already been prepared for participation in the program, which starts in March this year. This is reported by the Ministry of Science and Industry of the Moscow region.

On February 16, a regular meeting of the Board of the Union for the Development of Science Cities of Russia and a scientific and practical conference "Clusters as a tool for innovative development of science cities" took place in Pushchino near Moscow, following which a memorandum on cooperation between science cities in the field of biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medicine was adopted.

It says: "The science cities of Biysk, Koltsovo, Michurinsk, Obninsk, Pushchino have a unique scientific, educational and industrial potential, modern infrastructure that allows, through inter-cluster interaction, to significantly raise the level of the technological base, increase the speed and quality of economic growth, and increase the competitiveness of manufactured technological products."

According to Nikolay Khokhlov, the head of the development department of the scientific and industrial complex of the Pushchino science city, the financing of the program in the amount of 5 billion rubles will begin in March. Within the framework of the project, 10 clusters of various scientific orientation have been created.

The Government of the Moscow region considers the idea of creating research and production clusters to be very promising. As the Minister of Industry of the Government of the Moscow region Vladimir Kozyrev noted, such associations in the Moscow region are not only necessary, but also natural: "We have more than ninety thousand people engaged in scientific activities. Of course, the more favorable conditions are created for their effective interaction, integration, and overall development, the more competitive and in-demand products can be created. Needless to say, such clusters are directly related to innovative development, which is defined as a national priority and is now a primary and, most importantly, a feasible task."
