Sequencing in Russian

D.I. Mendeleev VNIIM for the first time deciphered the genome on Russian equipment

Whose genome it was, the VNIIM message does not say – VM.

In the Russian Federation, within the framework of state tests, for the first time using a domestic hardware and software complex, reagents and consumables, the genome was decoded using mass parallel sequencing technology. The decoding and assembly of the DNA sequence took place on the basis of the research department of state standards and reference samples in the field of bioanalytical and medical measurements of the D.I. Mendeleev VNIIM (Rosstandart organization).

The equipment was developed by the Institute of Analytical Instrumentation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the chemical reagents were produced by the research and production company "Syntol" (Moscow).

According to scientists, genome-wide sequencing until recently required the use of foreign equipment.

The results of the tests confirm the quality of high-tech domestic instrument-making products, which will make sequencing technologies more accessible and help bring medical, including epidemiological studies, to a new level.

According to Anton Pronin, head of the Mendeleev VNIIM, in the near future metrologists and instrument makers will test equipment for decoding the genomes of pathogenic microorganisms for humans.

"The technical and intellectual potential of the Institute in the field of bioanalytical and medical measurements allows us to conduct the most complex fundamental research that will help to respond effectively to new threats," Anton Pronin said.
