The first inter-scientific forum in the history of the Joint SB RAS has started

"Science in Siberia"

About 200 participants gathered for the first All-Russian symposium "The latest methods of cellular technologies in medicine", which opened yesterday in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok.

Researchers will make presentations and reports, take part in poster sessions and round-table discussions at the sites of the Federal Research Institute of Circulatory Pathology named after E. N. Meshalkin and the House of Scientists of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Opening the plenary session, Academician Alexander Leonidovich Aseev, Chairman of the SB RAS, noted that the symposium is an example of the positive use of the process of reforming state academies in terms of strengthening cooperation of researchers from previously disunited scientific organizations.

"I think we will reach a new level of integration projects," he suggested, "if we meet with understanding from the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations." "Our time is a time of rapid progress in biology, biotechnology and biomedicine," A. Aseev said, "and in this series cellular technologies have enormous potential, promising, including for combating a number of diseases previously considered incurable."

The head of the Department of the Ministry of Health of Russia Andrey Valentinovich Vasiliev suggested that new discoveries in biomedicine will dictate significant changes in society. "The SB RAS team," he believes, "is a recognized leader in some areas, one of the main topics is pluripotent stem cells, one of the brightest achievements of modern science."

Academician Gennady Tikhonovich Sukhoi, who was elected president of the National Society of Regenerative Medicine a year ago, announced that its number has reached two and a half thousand members. He presented diplomas and robes of honorary professors to eleven researchers, and he received these attributes from the hands of Academician A. Aseeva. A draft memorandum was distributed to the participants of the symposium for discussion at events and in an informal setting.
