Russian HIV drug is being tested

A domestic drug for the treatment of HIV infection is undergoing clinical trials in Russia, the correspondent of "Gazeta.Ru».

This was reported to him by Nikolay Savchuk, a member of the Board of Directors of the Himrar Research Institute of Chemical Diversity, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Viriom and director of the MIPT Strategic Development Center.

This drug was created by the Russian company Viriom in partnership with MIPT on the basis of a molecule, among others, obtained from the international company Roche. This is the first transfer deal involving Big Pharma, when the development was transferred to a Russian company to bring it to production.

The innovative drug with the working name VM-1500 belongs to the revertase inhibitors, prevents the virus from multiplying in cells. As a result of its action, the content of viral particles in the body, according to Nikolay Savchuk, is reduced to almost zero. During clinical trials, the drug has demonstrated not only safety, but also effectiveness.

The creators of the drug, which does not yet have a commercial name, expect that in 2015 they will be able to register it on the Russian market. In the future, they see prospects for the HIV drug to enter the international market.
