A doctor has named the most common injuries in winter

Ankle fracture and sprained ankle joint ligaments are the most common household injuries in winter, said Marina Prokhorova, an orthopedic traumatologist.

She explained that these injuries are associated with falls on slippery streets. For the same reason, a fracture of the radius bone is not uncommon in winter. To avoid such injuries, the doctor advised to wear shoes with non-slip soles and well fixing the ankle joint.

Slightly less often in winter, patients come to the hospital with contusions of the lower back and fractures of the coccyx, says Prokhorova. These injuries are the result of falling on slippery stairs and escalators in the subway, she emphasized.

Separately, the doctor noted fractures of the neck of the shoulder and hip in ageing citizens, as well as injuries associated with winter sports. The most popular of them is found in fans of alpine skiing - rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.

Prokhorova also singled out injuries resulting from the use of fireworks, firecrackers and other incendiary elements.

She pointed out that in case of injury, one should always consult a doctor who will prescribe the right treatment.
