The "Greens" kept stolen mice in inhumane conditions

Scientists were outraged by the treatment of eco-activists with stolen mice

<url>Laboratory mice stolen by eco-activists from the University of Milan ended up in much worse conditions compared to the vivarium.

This conclusion was reached by scientists who saw the pictures published by animal rights activists on Facebook. Details are given in Nature Blogs (‘Liberated’ mice from Italian lab now housed in poor conditions).

The picture shows that the animals are kept in a room that is a combined bathroom in a private house. At least nine cages are visible in the frame, standing on all available surfaces, including the lowered toilet lid. According to scientists, these are completely unsuitable conditions for keeping laboratory animals.

"If these pictures reflect the real situation of the stolen animals, we are seriously concerned about their health. We don't think that these animals are better off now than in the laboratory," said Daria Giovannoni, head of the Pro–Test group, which supports animal experiments and advocates informing people about the essence of such experiments.

Among the stolen mice there were many genetically modified rodents, some of which were not initially adapted to life outside the laboratory (for example, the immune system practically does not function in naked mice).

On April 20, a group of eco-activists entered the laboratories of the University of Milan at night and took out many animals, and mixed up the signatures on the remaining cells so as to make further research impossible. Scientists said that this negated the results of several years of work, caused the death of experimental rodents.

In early June, biologists held a demonstration to attract public attention to the problem of animal protection extremism: eco-activists who came to the rally had to be pushed back by police forces.
