ExoAthlete: confident steps to the market

A project from Skolkovo presented a medical exoskeleton
at the Robotics Forum in Sochi

The Exorobotics company, which is a Skolkovo project, for the first time demonstrated the work of the ExoaThlet medical exoskeleton with a pilot with limited abilities. This is reported by the correspondent of "Lenta.<url>" from the forum "Days of Robotics in Sochi".

"ExoaThlet" is intended for rehabilitation of paraplegic people and similar patients who have lost the ability to walk. The exoskeleton provides them with the ability to move in an upright position with the help of crutches, and also accelerates the recovery of motor activity. The operator can control the device, and technology is also being patented, which will allow the device to work automatically.

Ekaterina Bereziy, CEO of Exorobotics, said that the company plans to certify and release the ExoaThlet for sale in a year. Bereziy informed "Lenta.ru", that now the exoskeleton works from two to six hours on a single battery charge, depending on the load: the most expensive are squats and walking on stairs, the most economical is walking on a flat surface. Now the selection of the battery manufacturer is underway, so the battery life may increase. Albert Efimov, director of IT projects of the information technology cluster, explained that the mechanics of human walking were studied to create an exoskeleton. According to his calculations, the cost of the device will be about 1.5 million rubles. He noted that previously only healthy pilots participated in demonstrations of the device.

The forum "Days of Robotics in Sochi" includes the International Robotics Olympiad WRO Russia 2014, the interactive exhibition "EduRobotics – Expo", the innovation forum, as well as the festival "RoboFest-South". The theme of the Olympiad is "Robots and Space". Russia will be represented by 44 teams from 13 regions of Russia. WRO participants will compete in four categories: "basic" (development of a robot that meets the task), "open" or "creative" (development of creative solutions corresponding to the topic), as well as "robot football" and "college".
