From October 11 to 17, the 360° Festival of Contemporary Scientific Cinema was held in Moscow, where popular science films by foreign and domestic directors were presented.

The diploma "For contribution to the development and popularization of scientific knowledge among children and youth" was awarded to the animated series about nanotechnology "Magic Laboratory", created with the support of the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs.

The Magic Laboratory is a series of short five–minute animated films devoted to various aspects of the application of nanotechnology. The main characters – an experienced professor Onotole (a cartoon image of the famous Russian journalist and intellectual Anatoly Wasserman) and his young assistant Korzyk – in the form of interactive lectures tell why nanotechnology is needed and why scaling down to "ten to minus nine" radically changes the properties of materials and gives scientists tools they don't know about they could have dreamed ten years ago. Each series is devoted to a separate branch of the economy or a problem. In Professor Onotole's classes, you can learn about targeted drug delivery, how nanorobots can "repair" damaged cells, and how a gecko can help in designing new weapons.

"Mostly schoolchildren who are old enough and knowledgeable enough to understand what it says will be interested in the series. After all, nanotechnology is not so simple that you can delve into them even in the cradle. But, on the other hand, schoolchildren are young enough to spend most of their lives surrounded by these very nanotechnologies," commented journalist and publicist Anatoly Wasserman.

It is expected that the animated series will be available to a wide audience from November 2013.

As part of the festival, an exhibition "Look, this is NANO!" was also held at one of its venues – the ZIL Cultural Center. Visitors were able to get acquainted with many technologies and solutions described in the animated series "Magic Laboratory": with unique nanomaterials, promising energy-saving technologies, advanced research equipment that allows you to look into the nanomaterial. The motto of the project is "Just about the difficult!". Almost any exhibit of the exhibition can be picked up, examined in detail and even conducted a small experiment with it. Among the exhibits are a carbon tumbler in the form of a huge diamond, an interactive stand that clearly shows how modern energy–saving glass allows you not to suffer from the heat in summer, and, conversely, not to freeze in winter, as well as a number of introductory stands that tell in accessible language about what "ten in minus nine" is, and how the transition to the nanowire allows us to change our lives.
