A surgeon from the Guinness Book of Records

On June 22, 2008, surgeon Fyodor Uglov died in St. Petersburg at the 104th year of his life. A student of the outstanding Russian doctor Nikolai Petrov, the founder of Russian oncology, Fyodor Uglov was an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, a full and honorary member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts, vice-president of the International Slavic Academy, president of the State Orthodox Foundation, honorary doctor of the St. Petersburg State Medical University named after I. Pavlov.

He got into the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest practicing surgeon.

Fedor Uglov performed more than 6.5 thousand operations. He is the author of 8 monographs and 600 scientific articles on surgery. His glorious life and selfless work cannot but cause admiration, numerous books captivate with their benevolence, sincerity and attentiveness to people. He was a modest and principled man.

For many years, Fyodor Uglov headed the journal "Bulletin of Surgery named after I. Grekov", was a member of the editorial board of the journal "Protection and Security", a member of the Union of Writers of Russia, an honorary member of the Pirogov Surgical Society. In addition, he headed the Union of Struggle for National Sobriety, was able to convince and set an example of a healthy lifestyle.

Yesterday, the Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko and deputies of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly expressed their condolences in connection with the death of the surgeon.
