RIA News

The largest forum of European scientists in the field of life sciences, the annual congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), will be held in St. Petersburg next July, the head of the Russian Biochemical Society representing Russia in FEBS, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gabibov said on Wednesday.

"We have already attracted ten Nobel laureates. Believe me, this is a high level of congress," the scientist said at a meeting of the presidential commission on modernization.

At the same time, Gabibov proposed to significantly simplify the system of entry to Russia for foreign participants of the congress, up to the abolition of visas for them, by analogy with allowing fans to freely attend major international tournaments.

"It is difficult to provide a visa regime for 4 thousand people," the scientist said.

Gabibov explained that the arrival of major scientists will allow young Russian scientists to get acquainted with the works of the leaders of European science.

The Congress of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies was held once in the USSR – in 1984 in Moscow.

The Federation of European Biochemical Societies, which includes 46 European countries, is the largest European organization for natural sciences. The main goal of the Federation is to develop fundamental research and obtain new technologies in the field of biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology and biotechnology.
