The myth of Russian innovation

Russian Innovation Week begins in St. PetersburgSTRF.ru
Russian Innovation Week is a joint project of the Government of St. Petersburg and the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation.

The Second St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum and the Russian Industrialist Forum will be held in the Northern Capital from September 30 to October 3. It is expected that the St. Petersburg part of the Innovation Week will be visited by about 5,000 guests who will represent more than 40 regions of the Russian Federation and 20 countries of the world. The congress program will include 47 events (32 will be held within the framework of the Innovation Forum and 15 – Russian Industrialist).

The Innovation Week will be opened by the plenary session "Innovative Russia: myth or reality." Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation A. D. Zhukov, members of the Government of St. Petersburg and General Director of RUSNANO Group A. Chubais will address the participants with welcoming words. The key issues of the discussion will be: "Innovative Russia: myth or reality", "Innovations: modernization of an old industry or creation of a new one", "Jobs or innovations". In addition to the participants of the discussion, the answers to the first question will be given in the mode of video appeals by the heads of the world's leading companies.

The peculiarity of the congress part is that its events are organized by leading public business associations, large companies, scientific and research centers, organizations of innovative infrastructure. The exhibition part will be represented by five expositions: "Innovative Russia" (112 exhibitors), "Russian Industrialist", "Atomic Industry", "Mechatronics and Robotics", "Display-2009". In total, more than 300 companies take part in all five exhibitions. St. Petersburg and its foreign partners, the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation, the Ingria Technopark, the Special Economic Zone of the Technical and Innovation Type in St. Petersburg, the Russian Venture Company, the Russian Association of Direct and Venture Investment, the St. Petersburg Organization of Business Angels, the Furniture Technopark, the Assistance Fund are represented at the stands of Innovative Russia small business lending in St. Petersburg, leading universities of the city.

The stands of the companies will be formed on a cluster basis – mechanical engineering, medicine, ecology, electronics, laser equipment, energy saving, IT, etc. During all four days of the St. Petersburg part of the Innovation Week, there will be a presentation zone where innovative companies will present their own projects to investors. There will be 33 master classes, discussions, presentations. A series of signing agreements on cooperation and investments is also planned.

On the first day – September 30 – the winners of several competitions among innovative companies will be awarded. The winners of the competition for the St. Petersburg Government Award for the best innovative project will be awarded (11 nominations, the total amount of awards is 14.5 million rubles), the winners of the city competition "Young. Audacious. Promising", the participants of the IT Dialogue contest will receive their awards. The official opening of the Academy of Open Information and Communication Technologies is also scheduled for this day.

On October 1, the opening of the Research and Innovation Center of Telecommunications at the St. Petersburg State University named after Prof. Bonch-Bruevich. The Russian Innovation Week is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. The organization and holding of the Innovation Week is one of the tasks of the Government of St. Petersburg on the way to the formation of the city as an international innovation center, fixed in the Comprehensive Program of Measures for the implementation of innovation Policy in the Northern Capital for 2008-2011.
