Russian drugs will be no worse and cheaper than imported ones

In St. Petersburg, the production of domestic drugs for the treatment of cancer begins

Maria Khitarishvili, "Doctor Peter"A plant for the production of drugs for the treatment of oncological and autoimmune diseases has opened in St. Petersburg.

It is assumed that they will go on sale next year. So far, all these medicines have been purchased abroad.

Russia spends about $300 million a year on the purchase of necessary medicines for cancer patients abroad. Now the state will be able to purchase drugs in its own country – they will be produced by the domestic biopharmaceutical company Biocad, whose production building was launched on September 6, 2013.

The production capacity of the enterprise will be 160 kg of medicines per year. It is expected that this will fully cover Russia's need for modern medicines for the treatment of oncological and autoimmune diseases.

The first three drugs based on monoclonal antibodies, which will treat blood cancer, lymph node cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer, will go on sale next year. The price of the domestic medicine will be 30% lower than the imported one.

The amount of investment in the creation of production amounted to $ 52 million. In total, it is planned to build six facilities where 32 drugs will be produced.

The production building was built within the pharmaceutical cluster, whose main goals are to expand existing production, develop and create new drugs. "The pharmaceutical cluster has already been fully formed, each company has its own investment plans, goals and objectives, and we, for our part, support our federal target program. Companies receive grants for the development of medical devices. It is difficult to say when the process will be completed, everything depends on the activity of the manufacturers themselves," said Sergey Tsyb, Director of the Department of Chemical and Technological Complex and Bioengineering Technologies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

This year, the Gerafarm company and the Polisan NTFF have already completed their projects, the Farmsintez company announced the construction of the plant.

In total, fifteen modern factories for the production of medicines and equipment and ten laboratories will be built within the cluster.
