From October 5 to 8, the OpenBio platform for open communications in the field of virology, biotechnologies, and biopharmaceuticals will be held for the eighth time in the Koltsovo science city of the Novosibirsk region. The OpenBio program includes a three–day conference of young scientists and a scientific and business forum with discussions on longevity, combating the spread of HIV infection and developing vaccines against COVID-19, as well as an exhibition of achievements of biotechnology companies. The events are organized in a hybrid format, with the ability to connect to an online broadcast on the official website.

"The OpenBio open communications platform remains the main event in the field of biotechnology and virology in the space from Yekaterinburg to Vladivostok. Major federal and foreign experts are coming to us, hundreds of theses from all over the country come to our scientific conference. OpenBio is a strong brand, the key to successful scientific and business cooperation. Interest is growing, and with it the scale of the event is expanding. The pandemic inspired us to an online format, now those who cannot come in person will be able to connect online. The hybrid format remains with us – we connect experts, speakers and speakers from anywhere in the world," said Yulia Linyushina, head of OpenBio.

International Scientific Conference

At the scientific conference, young scientists will present 120 reports in four sections: molecular biology, biotechnology, biophysics and virology. In addition to the traditional directions, this year's conference for the first time will include interdisciplinary reports on research in the field of bioinformatics in a separate nomination. Scientists will speak offline and online, as well as show the results of research at a poster session.

The geography of the scientific conference includes 42 regions of Russia and ten countries of the world – Belarus, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Moldova, the UAE, the USA, Germany and the Czech Republic. The organizers celebrate this year a large number of reports from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The most valuable reports of the scientific conference will be published in the journal "Molecular Biology", which is included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and indexed in the international database Scopus.

Installation lectures by famous scientists

During the scientific conference, well-known Russian scientists will make profile reports. Olga Ostroumova, Head of the Laboratory for Modeling Membranes and Ion Channels of the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will give a lecture "The role of membrane lipids in the regulation of ion channels: new strategies for the development of pharmaceuticals".

"In the last decade, there has been a steady increase in mortality from infectious diseases. This is due to the fact that pathogenic microorganisms causing fungal or bacterial infections have learned to resist classical antibiotics. The rapid adaptability of microbes has led to the discovery of strains resistant to the latest innovative drugs. During the lecture, we will discuss how to achieve that antibiotics purposefully act only on the membranes of pathogenic microorganisms and do not damage the membranes of our cells. Listeners will be interested to learn how the shells of pathogenic bacteria, fungi and viruses differ from the membranes of our cells, and how the study of membrane biophysics will help in the search for antibiotics of the future," Olga Ostroumova said.

Mikhail Mikhailov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Viral Hepatitis of the I.I.Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, will talk about the evolution of the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis in the USSR and Russia.

Alexander Karabelsky, Scientific Director of the Gene Therapy department at Sirius University, will read a report on the methods and technologies of gene therapy.

The topic of the speech by Lyudmila Gulyaeva, Head of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Institute of Medicine and Psychology of Novosibirsk State University, will be "microRNA as a tool for finding new markers of carcinogenesis".

You will be able to connect to all event venues online. To participate in OpenBio-2021, registration is required on the website: https://openbio.ru /
