Molecular diagnostics and biosafety

Biosafety will be the key topic of the X International Conference "Molecular Diagnostics-2020"

"Scientific Russia"

April 14 , 2020 will be held for the first time Russian-German Forum "Molecular Diagnostics and Biosafety". The event will take place within the framework of the 10th Anniversary International Conference "Molecular Diagnostics 2020" (Moscow, April 14-16, 2020, held by Order No. 51 of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation dated January 28, 2020).

The Forum is supported by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Robert Koch Institute, one of the leading German medical institutions directly subordinate to the German Ministry of Health and performing the functions of monitoring and prevention of diseases at the federal level.

Special attention at the Forum will be paid to the discussion of the latest domestic and international developments on prevention and emergency response to epidemic threats.

The issues of ensuring biological safety are more relevant today than ever. Growing globalization, expansion of transport corridors, intensification of passenger traffic and trade – all this facilitates the spread of pathogens and increases the vulnerability of the population to dangerous infectious diseases, such as coronavirus pneumonia, influenza pandemics caused by new highly pathogenic strains, etc.

"Ensuring biosafety is one of the main challenges facing humanity. Molecular biological methods in epidemiological practice are indispensable in deciphering outbreaks and monitoring diseases of infectious etiology. In the situation of the development of the epidemic caused by coronavirus, these methods play a key role. The conference aims to summarize modern achievements and current trends in the development of molecular diagnostics in the field of human infectious diseases and biosafety, the use of molecular technologies in oncology, pharmacogenetics," explains German Shipulin, Deputy General Director for Scientific and Production Activities of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Strategic Planning and Management of Biomedical Health Risks".

The program of the Forum presents key technologies and the latest developments in the field of diagnostics of infectious diseases. For example, Dirk Kulmaier, head of the microdiagnostics research group at the Fraunhofer Institute of Cell Therapy and Immunology, will make one of the reports on the noninvasive detection of infections by the analysis of respiratory products.

Another development that will be presented at the Conference Artem Petrovich Tkachuk, Head of the Translational Biomedicine Laboratory of the N.F. Gamalei National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, describes automatic means of indicating pathogenic biological agents for risk monitoring.

One of the main topics of the Forum will be international cooperation. In the world, issues of prevention and response to threats to biological security of a natural and intentional nature are becoming increasingly important. Their solution requires close multilateral cooperation, the development of international cooperation, the development and implementation of a unified policy to ensure biological safety.

National and international epidemiological hazard monitoring systems and the organization of coordinated and consistent actions against new infectious threats will be discussed. Andreas Jansen, Chairman of the section, Head of the Information Center for International Health Protection and Managing Director of the Center for International Health Protection of the Robert Koch Institute, will make a presentation "Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN): an overview of the international cooperation mechanism for responding to public health Emergencies".

Cornelius Bartels, an employee of the Robert Koch Institute's International Health Information Center, will present the WHO interface for health security.

At the end of the session Natalia Alekseevna Kostenko, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Innovation Development and Management of Biomedical Health Risks of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, will make a report on the development of legislation in the field of biosafety.

It is obvious that the introduction of genomic technologies into healthcare practice increases the effectiveness of measures for the diagnosis and prevention of socially significant and genetically determined diseases, promotes high-quality epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases, ensures the adoption of adequate measures to combat them, allows identifying new infectious threats and successfully predicting the development of the epidemiological situation. Therefore, at present it is impossible to overestimate the importance of information exchange in the professional community.

In 2020, the X Anniversary International Scientific and Practical conference "Molecular Diagnostics 2020" It will host more than 2,500 delegates from all regions of Russia. Among the speakers are more than 200 world-renowned scientists from Russia, CIS countries, Europe and Asia. Within the framework of the event, more than 15 satellite symposiums will be held aimed at developing modern technologies, introducing innovations in practical healthcare and gaining valuable experience from world industry leaders.

The list of topics and speakers discussed can be found in the scientific program of the conference.
