Multi-conference in Novosibirsk

A multi-conference on bioinformatics and systems biology has begun in Novosibirsk

Ekaterina Serebryakova, "Science in Siberia"

The International Conference "Bioinformatics of Regulation and Structure of genomes of Systems Biology" (BGRS/SB-2022) is being held at Novosibirsk State University. Within five days, several hundred scientists will present the results of their scientific research.

The multi-conference is dedicated to bioinformatics and systems biology, as well as their applications in genetics, medicine, agriculture, biotechnological industry and fundamental aspects of biological sciences. Today BGRS/SB is one of the world's leading platforms in this field.

The organizers of the conference are the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS, the Siberian Branch of the RAS, NSU, the Institute of Catalysis named after G. K. Boreskov SB RAS, the Novosibirsk Branch of the Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders, the Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technology of the RAS.

BGRS-2022 takes place in two formats — full-time and part-time. It is attended by almost 900 participants from 34 countries, including Belarus, China, France, India, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the UK and the USA.

The chairman of the BGRS/SB-2022 multi-conference, Academician Nikolai Alekseevich Kolchanov, scientific director of the FIT ICIG SB RAS, said that the need for the development of bioinformatics and systems biology methods arose due to the emergence of highly efficient and high-performance methods for decoding genomic DNA. "Over the past 15 years, the cost of genome sequencing has decreased by 10 thousand times. These technologies now occupy an important place in all research concerning living systems," Nikolai Kolchanov noted.

Bioinformatics is designed to analyze not only genetic macromolecules of DNA, RNA and proteins, but also methods of the computer biology system, which, in turn, are needed for the reconstruction and modeling of gene networks. They function on the basis of information encoded in genomes and form phenotypic signs of an organism.

BGRS/SB-2022 includes symposiums: "Genomics, Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics", "System Computer Biology", "Structural Biology and Pharmacology: Computer and experimental approaches", "Evolutionary, population and medical genomics/human genetics", "Biotechnology: Computer and experimental approaches" and others.
