Check your biological age

On July 11, Zymo Research, also known as The Epigenetics Company, announced the launch of a new service that allows quantitative assessment of biological aging using the myDNAge test. The patented technology based on the so-called "Horvath clock", named after Professor of human genetics and biostatistics Steve Horvath, is used to analyze methylation profiles of more than 500 DNA loci.

The new test will be sold by Epimorphy, a subsidiary of Zymo Research Corporation, created in order to present epigenetic tests on the consumer market. A detailed data analysis report provided to test consumers will contain a comparison of the biological age of the client with his chronological age. This may shed light on the mechanisms by which lifestyle and diseases can influence the aging process, as well as help in the development of new approaches to combating aging. This test is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of any diseases. The cost of one test is $299.

Researchers can also order the service for mouse and human tissue samples. According to the vice president of Zymo Research, Dr. Graham Threadgill, epigenetics can provide important data that will help to understand the mechanisms of development of a huge number of diseases and pathological conditions, such as cancer, autism, Alzheimer's disease and diabetes, as well as the aging process.
