St. Petersburg State University will pay professors 150 thousand a month

St. Petersburg University attracts young scientists with high authority in the world of science. You can get into the ranks of the intellectual elite of the university by applying for participation in the competition "Young Professor of St. Petersburg State University". Among the vacant areas are biomedicine, information and nanotechnology.

Those who have passed the selection are promised a guaranteed salary of at least 150 thousand rubles per month in the first year of work and a starting grant of up to 1 million rubles. In addition, the winners of the competition will be provided with a room for scientific activities, support staff and office housing.

– We plan to attract both domestic and foreign scientists who meet the high requirements for candidates to participate in the competition. We focus on the best, and that is why we offer unique conditions to the winners of the competition," Alexey Zavarzin, press secretary of St. Petersburg University, explained to Metro

Young doctors of sciences under the age of 37 can participate in the selection. A successful candidate for the last three years must have publications in reputable publications indexed in international scientometric databases, as well as have high citation index of scientific papers.

Previously, St. Petersburg State University has already invited famous scientists to work.

 – Stanislav Smirnov, the Fields Prize laureate (analogous to the Nobel Prize in Mathematics), has been successfully working at our university for several years, – says the Rector of St. Petersburg State University Nikolay Kropachev.

In his opinion, attracting talented scientists raises the international rating of the university. In 2015, for the first time, the higher education institution entered the top 100 in the QS subject rankings in the field of linguistics and the top 150 in mathematics.
In addition, over the past three years, St. Petersburg State University has created 18 new scientific laboratories run by the stars of world science.

– Professor Elena Grigorenko (Yale University, St. Petersburg State University) deals with the issues of psychobiological development of children in orphanages, Professor Ruslan Valiev – research in the field of super strength of steels and alloys, Professor O'Brien heads the F.G. Dobrzhansky Center for Genomic Bioinformatics of St. Petersburg State University and leads a team of researchers who implements a number of major projects related to genetic research – Alexey Zavarzin tells.

St. Petersburg State University has been included in the prestigious list only twice in the last 10 years: in 2006 it took 164th place, and in 2009 – 168.

In this list of the best universities in the world, St. Petersburg State University is only in the top 400.
