Delusions beyond the conceivable

The use of baby food can change genes, says a member of the Federation Council

Alexandra "Renoire" Alekseeva, XX2 century

Scientists apparently wasted money inventing CRISPR/Cas9 and experimenting with viral vectors, trying to find a safe method of gene editing. This is how Eduard Rossel should think, who stated that the method of gene editing was invented a long time ago and baby food is used in it.

At the Demidov readings, a meeting of UrFU students and Demidov Prize laureates, the former head of the Sverdlovsk region, member of the Federation Council Eduard Rossel, said that foreign baby food is dangerous – human genes, he claims, can be "regulated" through baby milk.

"This is a terrible thing, because science has already come to such an "achievement" that through baby milk, by regulating genes, it can be done so that only girls will be born. I see ten babies are being born. Two guys, the other girls. I think, have we really been fed up already? After all, this is state security! <...> I dealt with this problem with Sergey Maisel. We have prepared a program for the development of domestic baby food. We can't get through the Ministry of Industry and Trade in any way."

There may be many questions for Rossel. For example, is it only foreign baby milk that "regulates" genes, or is it domestic too? Will our baby milk be as harmful for the German as it is for us – foreign? And what is "regulate"? Is it the same as editing, or not? By the way, there are more boys born in Russia than girls, so Rossel missed this.

Note that Rossel first studied at Sverdlovsk Mining Institute, then in Ural Polytechnic Institute, defended his dissertation on the standard sizes of foundations.

Sergey Maizel, businessman and deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of the Sverdlovsk Region, confirmed Rossel's words:

"To date, it has become possible to edit the gene chain so that there will be a predominance of one or another gender population. Therefore, he is certainly right in ideology. <...> This story has been going on for 20 years. This is not a revelation of any kind. It's very easy to prove, it's enough to check the change in the gene chain."

Why, if foreign scientists have invented such a brilliant technology and even tested it on people, nothing is written about it in scientific publications? It smacks of a conspiracy. And how to check and what to check is not particularly clear. What gene chain, baby? An adult? Is this a special experiment to put on people?

Speaking seriously, it is, of course, unthinkable stupidity to say that gene editing can be carried out through the digestive tract, if we do not mean a person who drank sulfuric acid and earned tissue necrosis, after which anything could happen to the DNA of dead cells.

Against the background of such utter stupidity, it seems like flowers that the deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of the Sverdlovsk region does not know how to distinguish "idea" from "ideology", and that the phrase "gender population" used by him does not make sense. By the way, this illiterate comrade has his own company called "Milk Whale", so it is clear what he is driving at: if foreign baby porridges are banned, this part of the market will be freed up for domestic producers.
