Innovative high Michurinsky biotechnologies

Medvedev was shown innovative orange currants and yellow raspberries.
The president refused to try them

NEWSruOn Monday, President Dmitry Medvedev personally got acquainted with the Green Valley project – this technopark in the field of high biotechnologies should start operating in the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region in the near future.

The objective of the project is to grow and prepare foods rich in vitamins and biologically active compounds for a balanced and healthy diet.

The head of the country was not only told about the plans for the creation and development of the technopark, but also demonstrated its products. These are soups and salads, juices and bread, fruits and berries. As experts told the president, scientists selected no more than 3% of tens of thousands of samples of vegetables and fruits and began to design new varieties of fruits from them, ITAR-TASS reports.

"Are these products at least delicious?" – Medvedev asked, but the president refused the offer to try and personally evaluate the taste qualities of innovative food. "I haven't earned it yet," he explained his refusal and offered to treat the journalists accompanying him, who "have already worked."

However, Medvedev praised the appearance of the presented "exhibits". He especially liked the large orange-colored currant berries "Sultry Mirage", the dark yellow raspberry "Orange Miracle", which is 5-10 times higher in vitamin C content than lemon, as well as the large cherry varieties "Romance" and "Memorable", the agency notes.

The participants of the Mars-500 experiment were among the first to try innovative products, which were supplied with soups and second courses. A special new packaging was also invented for them – in soft bags or glass jars, but without the use of preservatives. Scientists guarantee that such cabbage soup from fresh cabbage will not spoil for 500 days.

Currently, technopark specialists are working on creating a menu for the Russian national team at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, which will be held in 2014. A separate area of work is the supply of school meals, which has already begun in several Tambov educational institutions.

It is planned that in August the land for the "Green Valley" project will be issued – 3 thousand hectares of farmland and a site for the technopark itself, and in 2012 a factory for the production of chilled food will start working. Michurinsk is the All–Russian center of horticulture and the first science city of Russia in the agro-industrial complex.
