The Scientific and Production complex of personalized medicine was opened

On December 1, as part of the Year of Science and Technology, the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the FMBA of Russia hosted the grand opening of the Scientific and Production Complex of Personalized Medicine - a unique platform for the creation, scaling and production of cellular and tissue products, bioprinting of organoids, production of therapeutic viruses, equipped with its own GMP production site.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Nikolaevich Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Anatolyevna Yarovaya, Head of the FMBA of Russia Veronika Igorevna Skvortsova, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Nikolaevich Falkov, Director General of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Viktorovich Chemezov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Mikhailovich Sergeev, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Grigory Vladimirovich Trubnikov and Director of the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the FMBA of Russia Vsevolod Vadimovich Belousov.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation addressed the guests of the opening ceremony with a welcoming speech Dmitry Nikolaevich Chernyshenko:

Rapid implementation into practice is the hobby of the FMBA. The treatment methods developed by the agency are used in many clinics not only in Russia, but all over the world. Today, a powerful research and production complex has been launched, thanks to which the time between scientific research and the appearance of innovative methods of treating complex diseases in hospitals will be reduced several times. This is an important event within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology announced by President Vladimir Putin. The government is interested in the emergence of such projects, including in other scientific and clinical centers of Russia, and will provide the complex with all possible support. It is important for us that residents in different parts of the country have access to high-tech medicine.

The Head of the FMBA of Russia expressed gratitude to the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences for their support and inclusion of the opening of the Complex in the program of the Year of Science and Technology 2021.

As part of the Year of Science and Technology in the structure of the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology, a unique Research and Production Complex of Personalized Medicine was created inside the high-tech clinic. Its purpose is to develop the most modern biotechnological products, their validation, standardization, production directly in the clinic and use for specific patients. Modern methods of searching for early diagnostic markers and targets for therapeutic effects, therapeutic viruses for the treatment of neurological diseases with a known genetic basis, CAR technology, i.e. technology for typing immune-competent peripheral blood cells for immunotherapy of glioblastomas and other brain tumors, have already been developed and created in the scientific laboratories of the complex. A separate laboratory of our complex receives induced pluripatent stem cells from skin fibroplasts, which are then differentiated into neurons and glial cells and, using 3D biological printing, multilayer functional organoids and tissue engineering structures are formed on their basis. In the future, we plan to work with autologous cells of a particular patient, creating cellular and tissue products specifically for him, stressed the head of the FMBA of Russia Veronika Skvortsova.

The Head of the Agency also noted that the core of the research and production complex is a production site that fully complies with international GMP standards, has the necessary set of clean rooms with ISO 5-7 purity, equipped with high-tech equipment similar to equipment in scientific laboratories, which allows not only to standardize biotechnological products and guarantee their quality, but also optimally broadcast from the scientific site to the production. The pride of the Center is the unique installation of focused ultrasound, which operates in two modes – thermal destruction and a special mode of spot opening of the hemato-encephalic barrier for the possibility of targeted delivery of medicinal and biotechnological products to a specific area of the brain.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Anatolyevna Yarovaya noted that the opening of the Scientific and Production Complex of Personalized Medicine on the basis of the Federal Medical Research Center of the FMBA of Russia is a holiday for the whole of Russia:

I represent Kamchatka, the Far East, and I can say with full confidence that the technologies that the FMBA of Russia offers today are not just a look into the future, it is already life in the future. And the invaluable help that you personally provide Veronika Igorevna and all your specialists to their patients is known throughout the country. Today you are launching a new ship of health and safety for all citizens of Russia into the future. And the fact that you have such reliable partners as Rostec and the Russian Academy of Sciences says that Russia is a country of unique opportunities. It is thanks to people like you, as your specialists, that Russia is gaining more and more confidence, because the main priority is the life, health and quality of life, the longevity of our citizens. I will be happy and glad to help you in every way to shorten the distance of our big country thanks to modern technologies and kind hearts.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Nikolaevich Falkov stressed the importance of opening a new complex for domestic medicine:

The XX century was a century of mass character and everything social and large-scale. Now we are living through a century when a person and his personality came to the fore. In the social sphere, economy and education, the level of individualization is growing. Today, medicine takes into account the characteristics of each individual organism. Therefore, the creation of a personalized medicine complex meets the most modern demands of the time. The Center will work in close cooperation with educational, scientific and clinical partners.

Sergey Viktorovich Chemezov, General Director of Rostec State Corporation, welcomed the guests of the solemn event, declaring the state corporation's readiness for cooperation:

The scientific and Production Complex of personalized Medicine is a production site where truly high-tech developments for the Russian healthcare system are being created. The equipment that is being developed here, we are ready to launch mass production through the joint efforts of FMBA and Rostec. This is especially important, given that we are facing the task of increasing the share of civilian products in total production to 50% by 2025.

The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Mikhailovich Sergeev, drew attention to the fact that the Center works at the most modern frontiers of science, and the research work that will be carried out in an open Scientific and production complex will definitely move the domestic medical science forward:

Brain research today is one of the most interesting tasks facing humanity. This task is decomposed into three interrelated components – the study of the fundamental foundations of brain functioning, issues related to the clinic, medicine – brain longevity and healthy aging, as well as the development of artificial intelligence and the study of new opportunities that open up in this regard. It is very good that your center is working in all these areas. The Center works on the most modern frontiers of science. It is very important that there will be a broadcast of the most advanced to the clinic. The Center should be one of the main performers of the brain research program initiated by the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is at the last stage of approval.

Director of the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the FMBA of Russia Vsevolod Vadimovich Belousov, in turn, thanked the leadership of the FMBA of Russia for their trust in the implementation of this project, as well as the team of the Center, stressing that thanks to them the scientific and production complex is really a living and new core of medicine of the future. Vsevolod Belousov expressed special words of gratitude to scientific and clinical partners:

Our center is young, but we have been integrated into the Russian and international scientific infrastructure from the very first minutes of its life. With some of them we are just starting some first steps and groping for opportunities for interaction, and with some of them we are connected by strong ties that permeate all aspects of our functioning. This is, for example, the Pirogov RNIMU, the Second Honey, which is the national medical research center for neurology. I cannot fail to mention the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after. Academicians M.M. Shemyakin and Yu.A. Ovchinnikov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with whom we also have the closest ties. For example, the biosensor technologies that are being developed at this institute, we are already using in our research and production complex, for example, to personalize tumor therapy and to study how it all works. I invite everyone, the entire scientific and clinical world to cooperate, we are always open to collaboration, to joint scientific projects.

Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Grigory Vladimirovich Trubnikov expressed gratitude to the FMBA of Russia for cooperation:

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research actively cooperates with the FMBA of Russia on many projects, including in the field of research of radiation radiation, solar radiation on neurodegenerative processes in the human brain. And I am very glad that we instantly found several points of contact with the head of the Center and are now putting together a large international program.

As part of the event, the guests had a tour of the Scientific and Production Complex of the Center with a visit to the molecular biology laboratory, GMP laboratory, electrophysiology, proteomic and metabolomic analysis, cellular technologies. The operating room with the technology of using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), innovative equipment for monitoring patients in the intensive care unit and intensive care, high-tech methods of medical rehabilitation and endovascular technologies were demonstrated.
