The best venture investor

In Moscow, within the framework of the International Forum "Open Innovations", the winners of the National Award "Venture Investor-2017" were announced, RAVI reports.

The award was established in 2014 by the Russian Venture Investment Association together with RVC and was traditionally held within the framework of the International Forum "Open Innovations". Almost all active venture capital market funds gathered in the small hall of the Forum's Press Center to find out the names of the winners of the National Award "Venture Investor"-2017, which has the unofficial status of Oscar in the venture business.

A total of 10 nominations were presented this year. The laureates of eight of them were selected by an expert jury based on statistical data provided by the RAVI as part of the annual analytical market research conducted by the association. The contenders for the victory in the non–competitive nominations - "Smart Money" and "Person of the Year" – were proposed directly by the jury members themselves.

Among the applicants are the funds Addventure and Almaz Capital Partners, FRII and the RVC Biofund, Sistema Venture Capital and Runa Capital.

The award ceremony was opened by the Chairman of the expert jury of the Award, State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Oleg Fomichev. "The fact that we are presenting this award for the fourth time in a row today confirms that the venture capital market is developing and growing. This year it was very difficult for us to make a decision on each of the nominations, because this year there were no such clear leaders, the competition was neck and neck, and the laureates who will be named today won in a very tough competition."

To open envelopes and announce the winners, the Adviser to the Director General of the Innovation Promotion Foundation took the stage Ivan Bortnik, General Director of the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs Andrey Svinarenko, Vice-President of the Higher School of Economics Igor Agamirzyan, Chairman of the Management Board of RUSNANO Anatoly Chubais.

The winner of the award was Foundation for the Development of Internet Initiatives. Four times its representatives were invited to the stage: 3 winning statuettes – this is how the market appreciated the achievements of the foundation and its head. FRII became the winner in the nominations "The best deal" of the early " stage" and "The best venture investor at the seed stage". The third statuette – in the nomination "Person of the Year" – was awarded to the director of the fund for his personal professional contribution to the development of the venture market Kirill Varlamov.

• Nomination "The best venture investor in the regions" – Investment and Venture Fund of the Republic of Tatarstan

• Nomination "Best Syndicated Venture Transaction" – Almaz Capital Partners, FortRos Ventures (he participated in the transaction as Money Time Ventures), Sberbank Digital Ventures and RTP Ventures

• Nomination "Discovery of the Year" – Sistema Ventures

• Smart Money Nomination – Runa Capital

The winner in the nomination "Best Venture Investor" was awarded by Oleg Fomichev: "This nomination is like in sports: there are many different sports, someone jumps, someone throws, someone runs a hundred meters, and there are all–around athletes." This year, according to the results of the jury vote, the AddVenture foundation was recognized as such a champion.
