Craig Venter has joined the Anti-aging Fighters

On Tuesday, March 4, the famous geneticist and entrepreneur Craig Venter announced the creation of a new company called Human Longevity.

The company's activities will be dedicated to revealing the secrets of human longevity and health. To do this, the company's specialists will create the largest structure for sequencing human DNA, with a capacity of 40,000 genomes per year.

A huge amount of information received will be compared with data on the health status and biochemical characteristics of people who have provided their DNA for sequencing. The purpose of this is to decipher the molecular causes of aging and the development of age-related diseases, such as cancer and diseases of the cardiovascular system.

To date, the company has already raised 70 million US dollars. The bulk of the funds are provided by rich people, some of whom previously supported another company founded by Venter, Synthetic Genomics.

Dr. Venter said that Human Longevity plans to sequence the genomes of both healthy and sick people, ranging from infants to centenarians. It will also sequence the DNA of microbiomes – bacterial communities inhabiting the human body. In addition, a contract has already been signed with the company Metabolon, which analyzes the levels of chemical compounds in the blood.

Human Longevity also plans to launch an ambitious project dedicated to exploring the possibility of using stem cell therapy to increase and improve the quality of the so-called healthy life expectancy of a person.

According to Venter, using the combined power of the main areas in which the company's specialists are competent – genomics, computer science and stem cell therapy, his team intends to devote itself to one of the most complex medical/scientific and social problems – the fight against aging and associated diseases.

Human Longevity's activities are aimed at changing the approach to the provision of medical services by shifting towards a preventive (preventive) model based on the use of genomic information. Venter and his team believe this will reduce healthcare costs. The ultimate goal in this case is not necessarily the actual prolongation of life, but rather an increase in the duration of the period during which a person retains good health and can conduct active and highly productive activities.
