The method of treating horses with stem cells, which has shown effectiveness, will be applied to humansDmitry Tselikov, "Kompyulenta"
The stem cell treatment technique, which is actively used to heal racehorses, will be tested for the first time on people with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

The private British biotech firm MedCell Bioscience has announced its intention to start a similar experiment within the next year, and in 2011 it is going to conduct a series of tests in several European hospitals.

It is planned to give patients injections of drugs containing their own stem cells, which after extraction will be multiplied in a special laboratory.

Fifteen hundred racehorses have already received similar treatment over the past three years. Statistics show that the method turned out to be 50% more effective than traditional practice.

"The transition from clinical veterinary medicine to human medicine promises to be an exciting and unusual experience," says Nicolas Maffulli, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine expert who will take part in the experiment.

Recently, stem cell treatment of Achilles tendon rupture in racehorses has spread everywhere, because these animals, sometimes costing millions of dollars, such injuries occur very often. For the first time this method was applied at the Royal Veterinary College (England), whose employees later took part in the creation of the aforementioned company MedCell.
