Ebola vaccine: preliminary results

Ebola virus vaccine has been successfully tested in the USA

IA REGNUMScientists from the US National Institutes of Health have reported successful results of the first human testing of an experimental vaccine against the Ebola virus being developed by GlaxoSmithKline.

According to a study by scientists published in the New England Journal of Medicine (Ledgerwood et al., Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vector Ebola Vaccine – Preliminary Report, publicly available – VM), in the organisms of 20 volunteers, the vaccine showed a strong immune response without significant side effects. At the same time, this result is considered as intermediate, it may take months before the completion of the research.

Recall, according to the World Health Organization on November 23, the number of victims of the disease caused by the Ebola virus reached 5,689 people, another 15,935 people are infected. The largest number of deaths was recorded in three African countries – Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
