Hemp extract is an effective and safe analgesic

Scientists have confirmed the effectiveness of the cannabis drug in cancerCopper news
Scottish scientists have made sure that an analgesic based on cannabis extract reduces pain in cancer patients by 30 percent, writes the BBC (Cannabis spray found to help relieve cancer pain).

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh tested the drug in the form of an aerosol for the mouth on 177 patients with malignant neoplasms. Such use of cannabis extract reduced pain in patients who were not helped by opioid analgesics such as morphine and other drugs by an average of 30 percent.

(What is "30%", neither from this message nor from the original on the BBC is unclear, but according to the following phrase, "The test results are published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management", we managed to find an abstract of the article by Jeremy R. Johnson et al. Multicenter, Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Parallel-Group Study of the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of THC:CBD Extract and THC Extract in Patients With Intractable Cancer-Related Pain. Already from the name it is clear that the design of the study complies with the rules of evidence–based medicine, and if you want, read the details yourself - VM.)

According to the creators of the aerosol, the extract is made so that in therapeutic doses it does not have the psychotropic effect inherent in marijuana. Nevertheless, its analgesic effect is achieved due to the same mechanisms – stimulation of cannabinoid receptors reduces the flow of pain impulses to the corresponding centers of the brain.

Mary Fallon, a professor at the University of Edinburgh, commented on the results of the work as follows: "The appointment of these drugs [cannabis extract] can be of great benefit in the treatment of severe pain, but it is important to understand the difference between their medical use and use for entertainment."

Aerosols of cannabis extracts are approved for use for various indications in more than 20 countries around the world. Recently, American scientists have confirmed that such drugs effectively suppress the symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
