In the US, the ban on genetic discrimination has received final approval

From now on, only a doctor and a patient should have access to genetic information obtained through DNA analysis.

The House of Representatives of the US Congress on Thursday approved a draft law prohibiting employers and insurance companies from infringing on the rights of people based on their genetic information.

Prior to that, the bill was unanimously approved by the Senate. In the House of Representatives, only one vote was cast against.

The adoption of the law was supported by doctors and scientists. According to them, now many people avoid DNA analysis, because they are afraid that employers and insurers may use the information obtained against them.

Business representatives were against it: for example, the US Chamber of Commerce believes that this will complicate legislation in the field of personal medical data protection, which, in turn, will lead to losses.

According to scientists, the absence of a ban prevented many studies tracing the link between diseases and genetic predisposition to them: people simply refused to participate in such experiments.
