Kashpirovsky is not a pest? I'm sorry!

Kashpirovsky sued 200 thousand rubles in a lawsuit for the protection of dignityRAPSI

The Savelovsky court of Moscow granted the claim of psychotherapist Anatoly Kashpirovsky to the chief psychiatrist of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Vladislav Shamrey and the VGTRK TV company for the protection of honor and dignity and compensation for moral damage in the amount of 200 thousand rubles, Kashpirovsky's lawyer Sergey Zhorin told the RAPSI/infosud.ru agency.

The basis for filing the lawsuit was the speech of the chief psychiatrist of the Ministry of Defense Vladislav Shamrey in the TV program "There is no Death. The secret of Academician Bekhterev", broadcast in February 2008. Shamrey claimed that Kashpirovsky was harming a significant number of people and understood this.

Zhorin clarified on Wednesday that Shamrey and the co–defendant in the case – VGTRK - are obliged by court decision to refute the claim that Kashpirovsky's sessions have harmed a significant number of people.

"This information was found to be unproven and unreliable, 100 thousand rubles were collected from Shamrey in favor of Kashpirovsky and 100 thousand from VGTRK," Zhorin said. According to the lawyer, the defendants in the case failed to prove the fact of Kashpirovsky harming a significant number of people.

"The court announced only the operative part of the decision, but we believe that it is based on the lack of evidence of the harm of Kashpirovsky's sessions," he said.

Zhorin stated that he had fulfilled Kashpirovsky's "installation for victory" and was satisfied with the court's decision. The RAPSI agency does not yet have a comment from the defendants in the case.

On May 31, the court began considering the claim on the merits. The defendants' side demanded that Kashpirovsky's lawyers provide a diploma to the court, which would confirm that he had a medical education in the field of psychotherapy. Also, at the request of the TV company's lawyers and a military doctor, the court requested the decision of the Zamoskvoretsky Court of 2001 in a civil case, in which it was found that Kashpirovsky's sessions were harmful to people's health.

At the same time, Kashpirovsky's lawyers objected to these petitions, as they believed that with his statements Shamrey accused their client of a criminal offense – intentional harm to human health. Consequently, in their opinion, the defendants' requests are unfounded. Nevertheless, the court granted these petitions.

Anatoly Kashpirovsky is a candidate of medical sciences and Master of Sports of the USSR in weightlifting, a psychotherapist who became famous in 1989 thanks to "teleseances of psychotherapy".

In 1993, he became a State Duma deputy from the LDPR. Two years later he moved to the USA.

In February 2009, some media reported that Kashpirovsky was going to host a TV talk show in Russia. Tatiana Dmitrieva, director of the State Scientific Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry named after Serbsky, then said that Kashpirovsky's sessions could harm the health of viewers.
